Regional Clean Up at Roaring Fork
April 13th beginning at 10:00 am
Tazewell County
Tazewell County
The Regional Clean Up will be on April 13th beginning at 10 AM at the entrance of Roaring Fork off of the top of Clinch Mountain (Route 16). To access the area from RT. 19/460 take the EXIT to the right at the Crab Orchard Museum and Pioneer Park. Proceed on Crab Orchard Road approximately 2 miles to Frog Level. Take a right on BF Buchanan Highway. Keep on this road to the top of the mountain. Approximately 6 miles. There will be a convenience store with bathroom facilities at the Thompson Valley Market. Continue on BF Buchanan Highway. There will be two overlooks on the Tazewell side of the mountain for parking.
The weather is looking good for the day with temperatures at a high of 74 degrees. I recommend a light jacket as we will be on the mountain top and it could potentially be windy. Please remind your crews to wear their heavy duty closed toe shoes, long pants, gloves and a hat with sunscreen to protect from the elements. If you have them available and will be picking up litter on the road, please wear DOT approved safety vests.
I ask that everyone please park at the wide scenic overlooks on the way to the top of the mountain (Tazewell side). We will have ATV’s from the Thompson Valley Fire Dept. and the sheriff’s office to transport volunteers to the site. If you are transporting volunteers via bus, please drop them at the entrance to the site and park back at the overlooks. We will transport the drivers back to the site from that location.
We will be providing lunch on site that day. At approximately 11:45 AM. We will have water available for drinking.
There will be no bathroom facilities on site.
We plan to conclude the clean up around 1:30-2 PM.
I can be reached on my cell phone 276-970-4489 the morning of the event. There will be very limited cell service in this location.
On behalf of the Tazewell SWCD Board of Directors and staff, thank you for all your efforts in assisting with the clean-up in Tazewell County.
